Special Weather Statement

Issued at 15:44 Friday 18 January 2019

Summary

Snow and blowing snow on tap An intense winter storm will move across New England on Sunday, then the Gulf of St. Lawrence on Monday. It will bring significant amounts of snow, very strong winds and blowing snow significantly reducing visibilities. Additionally, the front will create conditions favourable for the development of black ice on highways which could become very slippery. This storm should track into the province of Quebec and affect the Lower St Lawrence Sunday and the Lower North Shore Monday. However, the expected scenario depends greatly on the exact track of the storm which is still volatile and uncertain. A track a little further north could mean the occurrence of a major winter storm for all of Eastern Quebec, but a shift southward would spare several regions. The scenario should become clearer as we move closer to the event. ### Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
