Storm surge expected for Tuesday afternoon. Strong winds will combine with low pressure to bring large waves, pounding surf, and higher than normal water levels from Bay St. George to Bonne Bay. Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring. A swath of strong southerly winds gusting to between 80 and 100 km/h will develop over southwestern Newfoundland early this morning then spread quickly eastward across the Island during the day. These winds will be followed by a more prolonged period of strong southwesterlies gusting to between 80 and 110 km/h. Winds will gradually diminish overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. ### Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
