Extreme Cold Warning

Issued at 23:02 Monday 18 February 2019

Summary

A prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected. A frigid airmass combined with moderate to strong northwesterly winds will create an extended period of wind chills between minus 40 and minus 30 beginning Tuesday night. Extremely cold wind chills will persist throughout the day on Wednesday and continue into Thursday morning. Conditions will improve late in day on Thursday as winds gradually diminish and temperatures slowly rise. ### Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter. Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #NLwx.
