Winter Storm Warning

Issued at 15:36 Saturday 19 January 2019

Summary

Winter storm conditions expected this evening into Sunday. Snow will continue to advance into Eastern Ontario and become heavier this evening. The snow will taper off from west to east on Sunday. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are looking increasingly likely, particularly for regions close to the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. In addition, northeast winds gusting to 60 km/h will develop this evening and generate widespread blowing snow along with cold wind chill values in the minus thirties. ### Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.

Extreme Cold Warning

Issued at 15:45 Saturday 19 January 2019

Summary

A period of very cold wind chills is expected. An arctic air mass will move farther into Southern Ontario tonight. Wind chill values are expected to fall to near minus 35 overnight tonight through Monday night. Conditions will improve by Tuesday when a milder airmass moves in. ### Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter. Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
